MasterCard Restaurant Week 2016

Hey Guys,

Happy Tuesday :)

Hope your week is going well!

I ticked one of my 2016 goals off my list yesterday which reassures me that all things are possible through Christ and I might just be able to achieve all of them ;)

You might not know this but this week is MasterCard Restaurant Week, so was last week and the week before to be honest.
I attended a Media Dinner on the 4th of November at 1415 for the MasterCard Restaurant Week.
I have eaten at 1415 a number of times, check out my review of it here and here. I also played there once for a 60th birthday surprise, see pictures here and here.
Someone on my table chose this Emerald Seafood Risotto that I didn't have the guts to try out.
The prawn looked delicious but I'm not a fan of Risotto so it wasn't an option for me.
I got the Chicken Roulade stuffed with Seafood and Tomato coulis
It was interesting, different, not like anything I've ever had before
The Decadent Chocolate Cake I had for dessert was my favourite thing.
I also loved catching up with my Blogger Boo's Tosin Alabi of Africanism Cosmopolitan, Simi of Eat Tech Travel and Dee Mako

Fun fact, we were talking about Blogger Brand Collaborations and how we would like to work with a Travel Brand and visit a New country. Less than 24 hours later I got a call from Bella Naija about going to explore #JoziWithGoogle on their behalf. Isn't God Amazing! You really do attract what you speak like Sisi Yemmie spoke about here.

MasterCard Restaurant Week ends this Friday so make sure you click here to check out the various restaurants that are participating and so you can see their menu too. Remember that you need to pay with your Mastercard's when you go out to eat a 3 course meal from a carefully curated set menu.

Lunch - N6,000
Dinner - N8,000
Fine Dining - N11,000

Guests at the Media Dinner were gifted 2 vouchers and I used mine for Lunch at Truffles a couple of Days ago, review coming up soon.

Let me know if you've ever taken part in MasterCard Restaurant Week, what restaurant you visited and what the experience was like.

A Classy Midi Dress for LFDW Day 3

Hey Guys,

Happy Friday!

I hope you have a Fun filled weekend ahead.
I rocked this Beautiful Dress from Eman Zazar on the third day of Lagos Fashion and Design Week.
Sadly I didn't get any pictures as it was dark by the time I got there.
I have rocked this dress 2 times since then and it is such a show stopper, I always get loads of compliments when I rock it.
Ellen Affah of Natural Hair Rocks styled it in the bun and I think it looks so beautiful.
Sadly, this dress is one of a kind but Tolu, the Creative Director of Eman Zazar can make something similar for you with a different fabric.
Make sure you holla at her for your clothing needs. Tell her Tuke sent you too!!
I hung out with Akin, Grace& Cassie on Day 3 of LFDW.
We weren't allowed to take pictures inside Federal Palace Hotel Lobby but I managed to take this one sneakily :)
Uju Marshall is one of my favourite models, it's amazing how versatile she is as a model.
I loved the talking drum bags that the models rocked while showing the iola collection.
Johnson Johnson was the highlight of the night for me :)
His models came out holding red roses, Ric Hassani sang and then he proposed to his boo.
It was such a beautiful, tear jerking, aww filled moment.
Maybelline showed their creativity next and then it was break time.
I loved the striped shoes that models wore during Loza Maleombho's collection. I've been loving heels of that height lately and wear them when performing as seen here.
Kaline sang during Mai Atafo's collection and it was beautiful.
Remember that post I wote about her here, Ololufemi is still one of my favourite songs.
There was a String Quartet too and they played so beautifully.
Tania Omotayo wore a very grand dress by Mai Atafo, the tail is soooooo long.
I think she looked really pretty like a Disney Princess.
I didn't attend LFDW on Day 4 as I had 2 events I was playing at, don't think I missed much though.
Did you attend LFDW?

How was it for you?

Don't forget to catch up on the Day 1 & 2 recap here and here :)

Hey Guys,

Happy New Month!

I know this greeting is coming rather late but the past few days have been super busy.

I played 4 different events in 3 days, clips are usually shown on my insta stories so make sure you check them out.

Like I always say, I am super grateful that I am able to do what I love for a living, it is a privilege I don't take for granted.

I'm really pleased with the way November turned out. It was filled with unexpected opportunities, two trips (Abuja & Jozi), mistakes & lessons. I got the second highest number of views I've ever gotten on the Blog and I'm close to 10k followers on Instagram, whoop!

December is going to be really busy, I'm playing at a number of weddings & parties. My first cousin, whose introduction I wrote about in this post is getting married too.

Can I just say that I was really impressed with the number of people who took part in the 300th post giveaway and filled in the survey.

Thank you so much, you rock!

I have a couple of things to give away in December and some exciting posts planned too.

I'm really looking forward to having family members from far and wide around and I can't wait for all the gisting sessions, banter and laughter.

What is your favourite thing about Christmas time? What are you looking forward to?

An Evening at Maybrands

Hey Guys,

Happy Thursday!

Hope you are having a Great Week.
I've been working with clients who value my work/craft and that brings me great joy. I pray you experience this too. It's a wonderful feeling when you work is appreciated.
While in #JoziWithGoogle I got an email from Maybrands asking if I was interested in visiting their store for a product review.
They are the number 1 retailers of designer wrist watches and accessories in Nigeria & are the only licensed store in Nigeria to sell Fossil products.
Fossil Group Inc is a mother brand which designs, manufactures, and distributes watches for brands like Emporio Armani, Diesel, Adidas, Michael Kors, DKNY, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Nixon, Skagen, Fossil, Tommy Hilfiger, Lacoste and Hugo Boss. All these brands right? Bet you didn't know that.
Maybrands have 9 brick and mortar stores in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Kano and Delta States and I have had the opportunity of visiting 3 of them.
This shoot was done at their store at the palms last week. I visited their store in Festival Mall, Festac, last week too.
When I visited Jabi Lake Mall in Abuja last month, I was pleased to see their store there.
I like the fact that they haven't just concentrated their efforts in Lagos, but  have stores in different parts of Nigeria.
They have a similar layout in all their stores and the excellent customer service is consistent too.
For the first look I rocked the Skagen Elin Rose gold tone bangle bracelet, Skagen ladies Katrine silver steel heart necklace & Skagen stainless steel mesh bracelet ladies watch.
I would rock this look to a meeting, church, brunch or a classy event.
I chose minimalist accessories and finished it off with this Fossil Dawson satchel black ladies bag.
I love the Red Lego like background that featured in these pictures.
On the left is Leye Makanjuola, the CEO of Intense Digital Marketing Agency which manages Maybrands and some other Key brands. If you want to up your digital marketing/social media management game, you should definitely attend one of their trainings which are enlightening, fun and well worth the money.
David, who works with Intense, rocked this Fossil Bag while the photographer was setting his camera, Swaggu!
I ended up being a hand model for a bit.
Aren't these Fossil Gold and stainless steel cut out floral bangles so pretty.
I don't really get manicures so I was pretty impressed with how these product pictures came out. Shout out to the photographer, Damilare Kareem.
I rocked a Black Jumpsuit for the second look and picked out some classy Silver Jewellery.
The Averi Ladies white leather watch from Micheal Kors & Skagen stainless steel Elin necklace worked perfectly.
Yes, when it comes to Silver Jewellery I like them simple and classy.
They have gold jewellery, rose gold jewellery, pearls and bronze jewellery too.
I was pleasantly surprised that the jewellery wasn't ridiculously overpriced.
Follow @Maybrands on Instagram, Twitter& Facebook so you don't miss out on any promotions, discounts or deals they may have.
They don't just sell Earrings, Necklaces, Bags and watches but Belts, Purses, Sunglasses, Rings, Wallets & Passport Holders too.
Let me know if you have been to Maybrands before and what you thought of the store/what you got from them.
If you're looking for a Christmas Present to get for a loved one who appreciates quality accessories, definitely get them something from Maybrands.

If you are unable to visit one of the 9 stores, simply place an order from their website, www.maybrands.com.ng.

Have a Great Weekend!

Restaurant Review: Orchid House Apapa

Hey Guys,

Happy Monday!!!

Hope you had a Great Weekend!

I got a cold and sore throat over the weekend which cut down my productivity and made me relatively inactive.

Other than that, I had a good weekend, went to camp, watched a Stage Play, ate some good food and hung out with my loved ones. How did you spend your long weekend?
I first heard about Orchid House through a post on Eat Drink Lagos, then I read about it on Naija Made Easy, Ofadaa.com and Trip Advisor.

It really is as described, it's so pretty, cosy, homey, lovely, a little paradise with loads of greenery and cute pieces.
It reminded me of the old Scarlet Lodge which I wrote about here and here. You feel like you're not in Lagos when you're there, especially when you are in the garden. I didn't take many ambiance shots because you need to go there and experience it yourself, take my word though, it is tranquil and beautiful.
We got Chicken Corn Soup and Vegetable Spring Rolls as our starters.

The soup cost N1,000 each and the Spring Rolls cost N500 for 2. They had Prawn Mayo Spring Rolls like these ones which cost N1,000 for 2 but I couldn't bring myself to order that because Owambe Mart Spring Rolls cost N100 for 2.
The Vegetable Spring Rolls had Noodles in them like the one from Orela which I spoke about here.

They came with a Spicy Chilli sauce but I wanted a bit more savoury so asked for Sweet Chilli Sauce which was DELICIOUS.
I got a Prawn Dish for my main and it was exactly what I wanted unlike the Prawn dish I had at a restaurant in SA, will gist you about that later.

I loved the fact that it was colourful with Red Peppers & nicely sized prawns. I wish the prawns were a bit more seasoned like the ones from grills in and out. Nevertheless, the Sweet Chilli Sauce I mentioned earlier made it LIT.
Tola got a Chicken Dish with Spring Onion, Ginger, Black Fungus and Mushroom.
He loved it but I just wish the sauce was a bit more, a little more liquid would have been nice.
We got white rice and fried rice.
I love the fact that the rice came in the shape of a heart, however, the serving was rather small.
We had to order two portions of Jasmine Rice and one portion of Fried Rice.
The Jasmine Rice cost N1,000 and the Fried Rice cost N1,200. The Prawn dish was 4,950 and the chicken dish was N3,500. We got 2 bottles of Aquafina 100 ml water at N250 each and were served a complimentary pot of tea when we were done eating.
We totally enjoyed our experience and would definitely go back again. The only downside was that they didn't have Thai Crackers which are usually complimentary. Also, some of the prices on the menu were wrong, the menu said the prawn dish was N4,500 and the Fried Rice was N1,000, however our receipt said N4,950 and N1,200. Note that there is a compulsory 10% tax added to the bill.

The other customers were expats from Europe, America and India and one couple even came with their dog.

They offer massages there too and the prices are reasonable.

The address is 15A Marine Road, Apapa and they open from 11am to 11pm Tuesdays to Sunday's.

They sell souvenirs from Thailand and have the most beautiful pastel walls.

Have you been to Orchid House before? If yes, what was your experience like?

Also, how did you spend your long weekend?

Hey Guys,

Hope your week is going well!

My cousin from this post is having his traditional marriage tomorrow so I'm looking forward to that.

Many people who filled in the survey here said they weren't aware that I had a Youtube channel.

I haven't posted a vlog in so long but I plan to be way more consistent on Youtube in 2017.

I recorded a quick and simple Natural Makeup Tutorial earlier in the week as a start.

It is up now so click here to watch it.

Check out my Beauty Pictorial and Earlier Makeup Tutorial too.

Let me know what you think & what products you use for a Quick Simple Natural Facebeat.

Christmas Gift ideas

Hey Guys,

Hope you had a Great Weekend!

Mine was busy with my cousin's engagement, wedding, a gig, a friend's birthday, a friend's movie premiere, a family reunion and then I got a really bad tummy ache which has kept me down for over 24 hours.

Christmas is in a couple of days and I know a lot of people are running around trying to sort out last minute presents. Well, this gift guide featuring indigenous brands and businesses should help you out:

Foldable flats from Thandos Shoes. Check out my post on them here, they have launched new collections and designs since that post so check out their website to see what is new in.

A Bag from Joellani, featured one of their clutch's in this post.

Gafa Sandal's made by Grace Alex.

A Blog planner from Cassie Daves which I wrote about here.
If your loved one isn't a blogger but he or she needs to stay organised, you can get a Life Planner from HDHQ Goods.
Check out the difference between both planners here.

A Dress From Sola Fagbemi, Desiree Iyama, Eman Zazar, Maxine Arthur's or Anko Designs (They specialise in creating African Inspired Childrenswear). Check out my post rocking an Eman Zazar Dress here.

A Watch from Maybrands, remember that post when I had a shoot at their store. They sell Jewellery, Bags, Belts & Wallets too.

A Spa treatment from Elle pairer, I got so many compliments on my skin after I had a facial there which I wrote about here.

Nigeria is currently in a recession so if you haven't got disposable income to spare on a physical present, make sure you spend time with your loved ones, catching up, bonding and just reminding them that you care.

P.S. I have interacted with all of these brands by purchasing from them, reviewing their product or service or I have spent time with the owner. Also, many of these Brands are owned by Bloggers doing Great work which is why I had to highlight them.

Have you sorted out Christmas Presents yet? What is number 1 on your Christmas Wishlist?

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Hey Guys

Merry Christmas!!!

Hope you enjoyed Christmas Day :)

Mine was fun, spent it with family and I really enjoyed the bonding time.

Went to church in the morning, came home changed then headed to my dad's side of the family for Christmas Lunch.
I planned to write this post after eating but I was enjoying the gist which is why it's coming on Boxing Day!
Stopped by at my mum's side of the family afterwards for more gist, food and fun.
Some of my family member's were riding around on a hoverboard but after my experience here, I know it isn't one of my strongest points.
I got loads of lovely unexpected presents that I love.
I'm really grateful that I had such a wonderful day with my family, all in good health and spirits.
How did you spend Christmas day? Did you get what you wanted.
Shout out to my cousin, Oyinade, for taking these pictures. She took the ones in this post too and is going to be taking a lot of my pictures come 2017 :)
Enjoy the rest of the Long weekend!!!

P.S. May the souls of George Michael and those who died in the crash rest in peace.

Tuke's Trips: Lekki Conservation Centre

Hey Guys,

2016 is over in a few days, Wow, I pray God protects and preserves us all so we live to see the New Year and many more.

I'm really glad that I was able to put up more travel posts this year. Check out the ones on Omu ResortTarkwa BayEdinburghJohannesburg and the three posts on China: 12 & 3.
If you are active on Instagram you would know that there has been an increase in the number of travel bloggers & tour companies in Lagos. I tagged the ones I know and trust in this post. Sadly, I haven't been able to go on any of the tour's as their dates always clash with a gig or family engagement.
On Christmas Day, my cousins, TJ & Helen were talking about how they wanted to do some touristy things like visit Badagry, Lekki Market and other interesting spots in Lagos. A lot of people I follow on Instagram went to Lekki Conservation Centre on Monday, Boxing Day. I asked one of them questions about going there, what you need to know and carry along, got some tips from friend's who had visited recently, called my cousins & loved ones and in less than 24 hours we were on our way to Lekki Conservation centre.
It is after the 7th roundabout i.e. Chevron roundabout on the right hand side. It was pretty busy as we went on a Public Day. Entrance Fee is N1,000 for adults and N200 for children. An additional N1,000 is paid if you intend to go on the canopy walk.
I had visited LCC while in Secondary School on an excursion but didn't remember much of it so was pretty excited for the experience.
I went with a group of 11 people and we had a Blast.
The Canopy walk is the longest one in Africa (401 metres), with an aluminium walkway and rope sides.
It starts off pretty steep but then the gradient softens up as you go higher.
It got pretty wobbly at points but we always moved in groups of 6-7 for Balance.
Some people turned back after the first walkway but eventually walked all of it.
I led the group at some points and it was pretty scary, we were praying and singing praises to God but deep down we knew we were safe. The man who built this also built the Canopy Walk in Ghana and the Cable Cars in Calabar, he knows his stuff.
We didn't have a tour guide, just followed the trail and asked people what lay ahead.
We didn't see many animals either, just monkeys, adult ones and baby ones too.
It was a fun, inexpensive day out and I think everyone should visit there at least once.
It was stress free, the staff we encountered were professional, funny and knowledgeable. We got wrist bands after paying the entrance fee and one of the guys on the canopy walk said if anyone got injured, he/she will be treated at the Chevron hospital free of charge due to their health and safety policy, don't know how true that is sha!
Loads of people go there for picnics, pre wedding shoots, birthday parties and to play at the games area with the XL Chess board and Snakes & Ladders board.

Have you been to Lekki Conservation Centre before? What was your experience like

Happy New Year Fam!

I am so grateful to God for all he did for me in 2016.

It started out a bit rough with some family member's having health issues and balancing a 9-5 I didn't feel was necessary with Music, Blogging, Photography & all the other things I love. It ended up greatly though and I can honestly say that 2016 was an amazing year of walking in purpose & God's favour surprising me.

I've been singing "You've been faithful lord, from the ages past, that is why your name, is forever praised". I pray this song shall be on your lips too.

In previous years, I would write out my goals at the beginning of the year, do a quarter year audit and then an end of year audit.

In 2016 though, I mentioned them briefly in this post but had them written out properly on a paper at my bedside. Some of my goals were pretty personal and audacious which is why I didn't share them on the Blog.

I thought it will be nice to share some moments, milestones and achievements that made this year notable and I have decided to write out the highlights month by month like Amarachi of Chapter One.

Summary

I am soo grateful to God, my family, my inner circle of friends and that special guy who has been by my side all year, listening to me rant, giving me advice, being there & making me smile

I am blessed with amazing parents who allowed me leave a 9-5 to pursue an unconventional career. I left with no certainty but God saw me through in a way I never expected.

I have learnt to not let things get to me, especially when the situation can't be changed and I pray for more opportunities, more blessings, true friendships, more money, more grace and no technical/technological difficulties.

I am grateful for the relationships & Friendships that were broken and restored. I'm so glad I was able to attend & participate at the weddings of people who have a had a strong impact in my life.

My video editing skills improved, thanks to my Mac & Anabel of Iambrownie. I put up 3 vlogs, a simple make up look, my thoughts on the Infinix Hot S and a video on Brazilian Wool.

I visited 2 New Countries: South Africa & Scotland. I spent a couple of weeks in England too and got flown to Abuja to play at a Dignitary's event. My skills, gifts & talents caused the blessing of an all expenses paid trip and I know there will be more of this in 2017.

I worked with some Amazing Brands on the Blog e.g. Ofadaa, Maybrands & Infinix
I played at over 40 events in Lagos & Abuja ranging from Weddings to Birthday Party's to Churches and Surprises

I met and built some sort of relationship with women I look up to, admire and respect like Sharon Mundia, Yolanda Brown, Ink Eze, Uche Pedro, Mimi Onalaja, TY Bello & Steph Obi

I made a good amount of money from my talents and ate at over 30 restaurants and reviewed over 20 of them on the Blog.

I learnt that it is okay to ask for help and I was overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support from my friends when I did.

I tried out loads of different hairstyles :)

I never used to watch TV Shows but this year I watched Empire, This is it,  5ive, Quantico, Awkward Black Girl, Insecure, Rumour has it & started watching Being Mary Jane.

Even though the Nigerian Economy was in a bad state in 2016, I still have so many things to be grateful for thanks to God.

As the new year begins, remember to set SMART goals after evaluating & reviewing how you did with last year's goals & resolutions.

How was 2016 for you?

Restaurant Review: La Brioche Lagos

Hey Guys,

Thanks for all the love in my last post, I really appreciate it and look forward to all the exploits we will make in 2017.
If you watch my Insta Stories, you would know I had Brunch at La Brioche a couple of weeks ago.
I went with my cousin, Oyinade, who took the pictures in this post.
I first heard of La Brioche in 2015 when I got invited to a Champagne Party at the cutest parisienne-style pastry shop ever.
I put a picture of the IV and package it came with on Instagram, check it out hereI wrote about the experience here and visited them a number of times last year to order mini pastries for work meetings.
I really wanted to take Sharon there when she visited Lagos but sadly they were closed for fumigation, shout out to them for maintaining health and safety standards though.
Oyinade and I got freshly squeezed juice to start.
She got watermelon and I got pineapple.
The drinks were refreshing and the consistency was perfect, like a slushy.
I love how the tables are laid so perfectly with beautiful china and gold cutlery.
We started off with a Meat Pie and a Chicken Pie.
It came in a rustic wooden tray with pretty pink napkins.
I always get a Meat Pie & Chicken Pie when I go to La Brioche, they are so delicious and well made with a nicely seasoned filling.
If you're having a party and need canapé's different from the norm, you should definitely order their mini meat pies and chicken pies.
The lady attending to us said we must try their flourless cake which is made from almonds.
It looked like chocolate cake and was very decadent, you need to try it.
The whipped cream and cherry on top went so nicely with it.
I got the Brioche french toast with a Berry Salad and Maple Syrup.
It costs N2,200 and is well worth the money
The Berries were so fresh, jeez.
The French toast was just the way I like it, not too soggy, not too eggy, just right.
My cousin got the Lobster Benedict which came with Lobster, Poached Egg & Hollandaise Sauce on Brioche Bread.
Doesn't it look beautiful.
She absolutely enjoyed it and found it very filling.
It cost N3,250.
They also offer the Crab Benedict which costs N2,550
They have a wide variety of tea's available.
They sell Freshly made Bread too.
The Baguette was calling my name but I was too full to give it a try.
Their tarts are so pretty.
I love food that isn't only great to photograph but great tasting too.
Don't you just want to taste that Lemon tart?
The apple pie looks like something out of a children's story book like Little Red Riding Hood.
The criss cross is so perfect.
You can tell that a lot of time, effort and love goes into making their pastries.
They have coffee cake and carrot muffins, French Orange Cake & Mini Loaves too.
They had Christmas Cakes on Display as we went there just before Christmas.
La Brioche is one of those hidden treasures that make you feel like you aren't in Lagos.
From the Decor to the ambiance, the customer service and the menu offerings, everything is top-notch.
Have you been to La Brioche before? What was your experience like?
If you're planning a Bridal Shower or Tea Party, make sure you stop by at La Brioche and tell them you're a friend of Tuke.
It is located at Number 22B Musa Yar'Adua Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.
They are open from 7am to 7pm on Monday - Saturday and 11am to 6pm on Sunday's and Public Holidays.

My Red Off Shoulder Dress

Hey Guys,

Happy Sunday!

Hope you had a Great Weekend.

Mine was quite busy, was the main band at a wedding yesterday and the old boy's meeting which I wrote about here is happening today.
I'm looking forward to tomorrow when I can finally rest.
My aunty gave me a spa voucher for Christmas and I'm going to use it this week to get a massage, really looking forward to it.
So, I wore this dress on Christmas Day and got so many lovely comments on it.
It was a gift from my friend Ewi, who runs a fashion label called Maxine Arthur's.
Cassie rocked a dress from her when in Abuja, check out her post on it here.
Her store is so pretty and organised, customer service is on point and the prices are really reasonable.
I accessorised with the earrings I got in my Nuella Michaels Glam Bag, a choker I got at Silverbird in Abuja for 1k and these lovely Black Mini Heels I got from H n M in Jozi.
I've been investing in Heels that aren't too high since July, I now have 4 and still want more.
If you know anywhere in Lagos I can get these sort of heels, please let me know.
My mum was shocked that this dress was made by a Nigerian as the quality is of international standard.
The fabric feels like something from Marks & Spencers or BHS.
Maxine Arthur's offers Bespoke tailoring services in addition to the ready to wear label.
They also sell accessories, fabrics and specialise in bridal clothing too so if you're in Abuja make sure you stop by her shop at No 1, Kaduna River Close, Maitama, Abuja.
Tell Ewi you're a reader of Tuke's Quest and you might just get something special.
Have a Great Week ahead!
P.S. These pictures were taken by my friend, Adeoye, after church, shout out to him for being super patient while people were walking past.
I rocked this dress in a semi-formal manner but it can be dressed up with the right set of heels.
I think block coloured dresses are more versatile than dresses with prints because they can be styled in so many ways and look different each time.
You can get in touch with Maxine Arthur's by calling 07063030122 or sending a BBM to 7AA2ADE3.
Let me know when you visit the store and what you think of it.
Also let me know what you think of the off shoulder trend and return of choker's.
Shout out to my mum for gifting my sister and I this classy bag from YSL.
I rocked it in this post and it always adds a touch of sophistication to outfits I rock.
KacheeTee asked me a question about Designer Bags and Shoes in an interview which you can read here.
Which would you rather invest in? Designer Shoes or Bags?

Protective Style: Long Thin Braids

Hey Guys,

I've been a bit silent on the Blog/Social Media because I lost a close family member on the 9th.

Shout out to my friend's and cousin's who made me feel better and just helped me think about the situation differently. How do you deal with death, loss and grief?

So, I did these braids last year when I was going to Johannesburg, read all about experience exploring #JoziWithGoogle here.
The braids were done by 3 ladies who I discovered through my friend, Detola, wrote about her here.
I used a mixture of colour's 35, 33 and 1 Xpressions Extensions.
It took about 3 and a half hours to get the braids done.
I recorded a little boomerang while they were making my hair, check that out here.
I had the braids in for 6 and a half weeks, the longest I have carried a protective style for in a while. I redid the front after about 4 weeks so my front hair wouldn't cut too much.
Remember that time I tried Brazilian Wool and took it out after 1 week. I ended up doing braids like this for that trip to London & Edinburgh but they weren't as long as this or as thin. Check those braids out here.
The hair posts I put up last year were really popular and I've been discovering new ways to rock my her given hair so watch out for that update post coming soon.
What is your favourite protective style?
How do you like your Braids? Thick, thin, long or short? Are you more of a twists person?
Check out my first and second attempt at Box Braids here and here.
Let me know which one is your favourite. I really loved how these ones weren't so heavy and they swung in a nice way when I danced, check out that video here.
If you like my Simple Natural Make up look in these pictures, check out my tutorial on it here.

Restaurant Review: Ocean Basket Restaurant Lagos

Hey Guys,

Thanks for all the love shown in my last post, I really appreciate it. Shout out to all the people who messaged me privately to find out how I was doing, y'all are the real MVP's.

If you've been a reader of this blog since January 2016, you would know that my family & I typically go to Pearl Garden for New Year's Day Lunch.
This year, however, we decided to try somewhere different. We formed a whatsapp group and quite a number of people said they wanted seafood. However, my sister and cousin aren't fans of seafood, my sister is actually allergic to shellfish.
We finally decided on a restaurant that serves good surf and turf but when we called to reserve a table, they said they were going to be closed on New Year's Day. Three of the restaurants on our list were closed on New Year's day.
It is understandable because the staff need to spend time with their family, however, they miss out on a lot of business on public holiday's.
We drove around for a bit after church on Sunday and finally settled on Ocean Basket.
I've been there twice before, once with my family and another time with my cousin. It has a nice seaside vibes, like you're by a pier in  Brighton.
My cousin got the prawn skewer as her starter and it was pretty underwhelming, it didn't look like what we expected.
My mum and aunt got salad's which they really liked, Fresh veggies for the win.
I shared the scampi starter with my mum and it was delicious.
My cousin got Calamari and it was quite a generous portion.
I love the stainless steel bowls our starters came in.
My aunt & uncle had the pepper soup and were pleasantly surprised that a foreign chain did it justice.
My sister got the garlic bread which came with goat's cheese on it.
They had some interesting Non Alcoholic cocktails like Strawberry Daiquiri's on their menu too.
Our main's took soooooo long to come as they weren't able to adequately cater to our table of 16 people.
Thank God the food tasted delicious sha, my Seafood pasta was LIT!!!
My sister, mum and cousin got the Salmon.
It is stored separately from the shellfish so didn't trigger off an allergic reaction.
They didn't have lobster in stock and when I asked at their Festac branch they didn't have it either. Where have you had good lobster in Lagos?
My dad and uncle got the Fish & Prawns in Oyster sauce.
It was a pretty sizeable portion and was somewhat similar to sauces at chinese restaurants.
They always give complimentary bread rolls at Ocean Basket, however, our's came about 20 minutes after our starters and they only gave us 16 rolls, one for each person.
This Peppered Grilled Fish was brought accidentally but I'm glad I managed to get a picture of it.
My cousin got a combo dish with Prince Prawns & Fish.
There was a lemon butter sauce on the fish which comes with many of their dishes.
They have platters too which are good for families that want to share one large dish.
My mum got the toffee pudding for dessert and it was scrumptious.
They need to get better ice cream though as we weren't satisfied with the quality of this.
It wasn't the freshest, like ice cream that had been defrosted and refrozen. We ended up going to Chocolat Royale afterwards.
My cousin got the New York Special and they were doing a special so it was Buy One Get One Free.
Even though the service time wasn't great, our mains were delicious so I will definitely go back again but not with so many people. The prices are pretty affordable too.

Have you been to Ocena Basket before? What did you think of it?

A Mini Blog Break

Hey Guys

Happy New Month!

I can't believe my last post was over 2 weeks ago, choi, that's life though, this is my second longest Blog Break, I wrote about the first one here.

I kept you guys a bit updated via Instagram & Insta Stories so if you aren't following me on there make sure you do so here.

Like I mentioned in an earlier post, I lost my Grand Aunt who was also my primary school principal and my boss during my NYSC year. Last week was really tough and sad as we held the Service of Songs, Wake keeping and Funeral Service.

Even though it's really sad that she died earlier than expected, we are comforted in the fact that she knew christ and impacted thousands of lives in her time here on earth.

It's a reminder that it's not about the quantity of your year's on earth but the quality. Also, don't hold on to grudges, forgive those who offended you and let your heart be at peace. Our time here on earth is temporary.
I'm honoured that I was asked to play a special song during the funeral service, I also sang the school anthem with other alumni which was really nice.
I attended GLA's Ignite The Manifestation this weekend and I'm really glad I did. I learnt a lot from Nathaniel Bassey, Cornelius Lindsey& Heather Lindsey.

I was pretty amazed at the number of fans they have here in Lagos, have you read any of their books? Which one and where did you get it from?

If you were unable to attend the event, check the hashtags #TheManifestation2017 #TheLindseysRevivalTour and @IgniteGLA on Social Media
I got there at about 5pm on Saturday as I was at a meeting for Live Your Dreams 5.0, it's on May 20th so make sure you save the date!!

I attended the She Leads Africa Slay Festival 2 weekends ago but only took pictures of the Rice at the Maggi Magic Jollof Rice Bar. Check out Ekene's hairspiration post on it here and Barbara's recap of it here.
I met sooooo many wonderful readers and followers who were really excited to meet me and it made me really happy meeting people who love and appreciate the content I create. Some of them love my restaurant reviews, some of them love my smile and one girl actually knew it was me from my hair, my signature afro puff :D

Kinky Apothecary styled people's hair in up do's and it really inspired me to be more creative with my Hair Styles as I either rock a puff, afro, 2 flat cornrows or a fro hawk.

I recently learnt how to style my Her Given Hair in a different way thanks to Ellena so watch out for the post on a sleek low natural hair puff.
The Maggi Magic Jollof Rice Bar didn't blow my mind the way I expected.
The Suya Jollof Rice was the best though, the Banga Jollof Rice was my second favourite. It reminded me of the coconut rice at Ginger Tapas & Grill. I didn't try the Asun Jollof Rice because I'm not a fan of sun. The party jollof rice didn't taste as good as party jollof rice and the coconut jollof rice didn't hit the spot at all.

Nevertheless, Maggi did a Great Job, the branding was on point, so was the Social Media lead up. Hopefully there will be more food vendors & more sitting areas at the next Slay Festival.
I used an Uber there because I hadn't been to the Nigerian Railway Corporation before and the crowd I saw an Instagram put me off driving, people were complaining about area boy's disturbing them when they were trying to park.
I also watched Itan the Story at the National Theatre that weekend and really enjoyed it. It only cost N1,000 and was my first time watching a play there. The set was Amazing.

Shout out to Social Prefect for posting about it and congratulations to her and Tosin Alabi on their recent engagement :)

My Blog turns 3 on wednesday and I'm really grateful to God for the growth and lessons I've learnt on this journey.

How was your weekend? What did you get up to? How are you doing with your goals/resolutions?

P.S. This is the first year that I'm not at School or working a 9-5 so my time is mine and the possibilities are endless. Praying that all my goals from 2014, 2015 & 2016 are achieved.

Hey Guys :)

This is my 323rd post and it's a pretty significant one because it celebrates my 3rd year Blogversary which was yesterday the 8th of February, whoohooo!
During the course of the year, I was advised to focus on Sax and forget about the Blog because Music brings in the most money and isn't such a saturated industry.

I'm glad I didn't listen to that advice because even though there were moments during the year when I felt a bit discouraged writing, editing Pictures, shooting, creating content & interacting with my readers & fellow bloggers makes me very happy.

If you are new to my Blog, you might not know that I write an article every Blogversary sharing lessons I learnt during the course of the year. Check out the lessons I learnt in my first year here, the lessons I learnt in my second year here and the lessons learnt in my third year here.
I spent my Blogversary writing, eating, reading and spending quality time with my Loved ones :)
I made Spaghetti Bolognese because going out to eat was long.
I was given a Beautiful cake which had 2 of my favourite colours, Blue and Yellow.
Thank you to everyone who sent me congratulatory messages, I really appreciate it!
Thank you to everyone who reads my Blog, leaves lovely comments, shares my posts & sends me e-mails. You rock!
This Blog has been more than an outlet, it has helped me discover skills I wasn't sure I had, it has brought be wonderful opportunities and gifts like my Infinix Hot S& the #JoziWithGoogle trip to South Africa.
I know God has a lot more planned for me, my Brand and this Blog and I can't wait to see it come to fruition.
Remember, Giving up is not an option, when you get tired, rest and recuperate then get back at it and give it your all. Don't quit because you haven't seen results immediately.

Valentine's Day Date Ideas

Hey Guys,

Happy Monday!

Hope you had a Great Weekend! I sure did :)

I played at a Beautiful Wedding on Saturday and went swimming with 2 of my favourite people on Sunday. We had Suya, Chapman, Candy Floss & Popcorn at Ikoyi club and it was so fun and inexpensive.

Valentine's day is round the corner and I thought to share ideas on how you can spend the day.

For people in relationships

1) A Delicious Home cooked meal like the Bolognese I made on my Blogversary followed by a Nice romantic movie. Check Sisi Yemmie, 1q Food Platter, Afrolems and Woven Blends for recipe's.

2) A fun Inexpensive Activity like Swimming or Salsa and then good food and quality time after.

3) A Candle lit Dinner at a Fancy restaurant e.g. Talindo's Steak House, Shiro or 1415 with Beautiful Music & Roses.

4) A Romantic Getaway to a seaside resort like La Campaigne Tropicana, Inagbe or Whispering Palms for people in Lagos. Check out the different tour groups I mentioned here to see what Valentine tour they have planned.

5) An adventurous adrenaline packed day spent at a theme park (Hi-Impact), tourist destination (Lekki Conservation Centre or Erin Ijesha Waterfalls), Kayaking, Scuba Diving, Bungee Jumping or whatever is available in your area.

6) A new creative engaging experience you would both enjoy like a Korean BBQ at Grills in and out or a Parisian style brunch at La Brioche or making chocolate and having a photo shoot afterwards like I did here.

7) Hire a private chef  like Chef Fregz, Imoteda or Kitchen Butterfly if your pocket is deep. I haven't really tried any of their food so can't say who is my favourite.

8) Attend a Concert or Valentine Themed event, check here to see what is happening in Lagos this week.

For people enjoying the Single Life

1) Hang out with friends at a fun get together/games night, you can even organise one if your house is conducive.

2) Organise a dinner where you and your friend's all cook different things then gist, chill and watch a movie.

3) Pamper/treat yourself to a relaxing indulgent spa day. Get a nice massage & read a good book while getting your nails done.

4) Shop online and indulge yourself by getting something you really want on your wish list. Get something you can afford o!

5) Attend a church organised singles function/speed dating event ;)

6) Take the day off work and give back to those in need, an orphanage, an old people's home, a slum,  a prison or volunteer and help out a charity that you identify with bringing joy and showing love to someone who needs it.

7) Binge watch your favourite TV shows with some of your best friends while eating Ice Cream & Junk Food.

8) Spend quality time with family who love you so you don't feel lonely.

How do you guy's plan to spend Valentine's Day this year? Did you find this post useful? How did you spend your most memorable Valentine's Day?

Check out Brownie's post here,  Grace's post here, Eat Drink Lagos's post here and Ndani's post here for more ideas.

Don't forget to enjoy your day regardless of your relationship status!

A Sleek Natural Low Bun with Kinky Hair Extensions

Hey Guys!

Happy Thursday!!!

Hope you enjoyed Valentine's Day ;)

I had a delicious meal for lunch, watched a fun romantic movie, got some lovely personalised presents and chilled with my boyfriend and brother. How did you spend your day?
These pictures were taken in January when we had a family photoshoot and got a professional make up artiste and hair stylist to work their magic.
The shoot was a Christmas Present from my Siblings and I to my parents, it might just become a yearly tradition
Remember my Kinky Her Given Hair from this post, well, that's what was used to create this voluminous beautiful afro puff.
Ellena of Natural Hair Rocks used a mixture of Flaxseed Gel and White Eco Styler to lay down my edges and then she attached the Natural Hair Extensions to my hair. I wanted her to style the hair with a quiff but my sister suggested this sleek, sophisticated, classy style and I'm so glad I listened to her.
I have 2 Bundles of the Kinky hair, one is 18 inches while the other is 20 inches. I got the wefts but if this is the sort of style you would like to do with the hair, the clip ins might be easier for you.
These pictures were taken by my sister with my camera but I felt they weren't popping enough so I read a lot of articles on retouching faces and tried my best to improve the raw images, what do you think?
Food Photography is my comfort zone but I just might try my hands on other types of photography because I truly enjoy making magic ;)
I also enjoy modelling too :D
I edited the pictures in different ways, let me know which picture is your favourite.
If you want to get this hair from Her Given Hair, use the coupon code TUKE to get 5% off & a free Headband :D
Also make sure you write my Blog name or Instagram Handle as your referral channel.
Some people think this should be signature hairstyle, what do you think?
Remember that no problem is too big to be solved, it just takes time, diligence, persistence and a bit of grace & favour :)
Enjoy my video's of the week :)
Remember to do unto others as you would like them to do unto you!

Restaurant Review: Samantha's Bistro

Hey Guys,

Hope you had a Great Week, Mine was okay, praying for more exciting testimony filled weeks this year.

I went out with one of my cousin's for lunch on Tuesday at Samantha's Bistro in Ikoyi.

There aren't many restaurants in Ikoyi, there is Casa Lydia, Orela, hotels like The George, Southern Sun, Moor House Sofitel, Protea, Fast food joints, Winehouse and a few new spots like Freshly Ground.
Samantha's Bistro is on Olawale Dawodu street, Off Kingsway Road. Nuli & Liquid Hub are in the same compound, Nuts about Cakes used to be there too until this incident.
My cousin got Pancakes, Eggs & Bacon which cost N2,500.
She liked the Pancakes and Bacon but wondered why they put pepper in the Eggs.
I got the Grilled Tilapia Fish which cost N4,800.
I was also interested in the Seafood Pasta which cost N4,500 but it didn't have Prawns, just shrimp, Fish & Calamari so I passed on it.
The fish was a nice size but it lacked flavour and the Chilli sauce it came with was nothing to write home about.
I had the Amma Jamma Sauce at Chicken Republic yesterday and wish my Grilled Fish came with that instead.
Luckily, the fish came with 2 sides so the Fried Rice & Sweet Potato Fries made up for the Lacklustre fish.
My cousin got the Vanilla Milkshake but she didn't like it. She got the Apple cooler as her second drink and loved it.
Samantha's is owned by Chef Dumebi who owns Due by Chef Dish and organises a food festival too.
I've heard that their burgers are Delish so maybe you should try that if you ever visit there.

There were loads of expats there at 1:30 on a Tuesday which is good. Do you think restaurants in Nigeria that don't cater for events make a lot of money?

Also, where is your favourite place to have Grilled Peppered Fish in Lagos? My favourite is Ginger Tapas & Grills and at weddings :)

Is Black Truly Slimming?

Hey Guys,

Happy New Month!

Hope you had a Great Weekend :)

Mine was fun and fulfilling, shared a lot of what I got up to on Insta Stories & in my Newsletter.

Make sure you subscribe here so you don't miss out on private bants & juicy giveaways, one is coming up really soon.

So I've posted a couple of all Black Looks on the Blog before: the LBD, a Stunning Black Evening Dress that I got at a ridiculous price and an off shoulder top and riding pants combo when I rocked Brazilian Wool twists. This look is the most chilled all black look of them all as my top and shoes are super casual.
I posted this picture on Instagram last year during Lagos Fashion and Design Week and it got so much love. It was my most popular picture as seen in my 2016 review post.
It might look like I work out but I really don't, I used to play Lawn Tennis & Table Tennis regularly  but I don't anymore, might go back to playing Lawn Tennis though because I really love playing. P.S. I won a cup and medals for Table Tennis & Lawn Tennis in my Secondary School and A level days.
These pictures were taken in London last summer by Dola Posh. I wanted to take pictures and build a model portfolio because I felt that my smiling face should be on the billboards of various brands I love.
Most agencies asked for head shots and full length pictures in all black outfits hence why I wore this.

The Black Pants are from American Apparel, they have been featured on the blog here, here& here.
The top is from New Look and my shoes are Nike Roshe Runs, I had to invest in them because it wasn't comfortable walking round London last Summer in flats, converses or slippers.

What do you think of this look?

What are your most comfortable shoes to walk around in?

Do you think Black is truly slimming?
